Brig (R) Rehan Uddin

Brig Rehan Uddin graduated from Army Medical College in December 1983 and acquired his fellowship in Dermatology in 1994. He has been regular paper setter, paper assessor and clinical Examiner of the subject by CPSP since 1998 and remained a member of the faculty of Dermatology of CPSP from 2007 to 2011. Presently he is working as Professor and Head of Dermatology Department in addition to being Director Faculty Development, Research and Devaluation & Quality Enhancement Cell in CMH Lahore Medical College & IOD.

He along with Brig Dilawar Abbas has the honor of taking the initiative of planning and organizing the first ever National Intensive Dermatology Preparatory Course for Candidates appearing in MCPS, MD and FCPS Examination in April 2005. The course is being run twice yearly and till date 25 courses have been conducted. More than 800 candidates from all over the country have benefited from this unique course.  In Dec 2018 he took another initiative of organizing and conducting first ever Basic Concept Course of Dermatology designed for those students who have joined Dermatology as trainees. The purpose is to guide and train them to make their training process easy and interesting.

Brig Rehan has special interest in innovative teaching techniques which forced him to acquire Master’s degree in Medical Education by CPSP in 2012. This helped him to plan and start faculty development programs in CMH Lahore Medical College in collaboration with his colleague Brig Aqeel Safdar in 2012. Since then he has conducted more than 100 workshops on different aspects of Medical Education including 1. How do we learn? (Learning Strategies)  2. How should we teach? (Teaching Methods)  3. How should we assess the learned competence (Assessment)?  4. How should we plan this program?  (Curriculum)  5. How to get extra time?  (Time Management).  All these workshops were conducted   for Faculty Development of different Medical Colleges & Institutes all over the country including Essential CPSP Supervisory skills Workshops. He also holds the honor of introducing and conducting first ever Faculty Development Workshops for CSS Academy and Naval War College in Lahore. He is pioneer educationist in Pakistan to utilize Learning Response System.

He also created and organized a public awareness program about skin patients with the name of “EDUTAINMENT” initially at PNS SHIFA in March 2011 and then at CMH Lahore Medical College Auditorium in December 2014. The theme of the program was “Society’s role for skin patients”

The program was designed to convey 3 points / messages for the society.

  1. There is no Institute of Dermatology in the country and it’s a dire need to develop them in each major city as skin diseases are the 3rd most common problem in any OPD.
  2. The common and treatable skin diseases remain undiagnosed and keep on flourishing because doctors do not have adequate training in skin departments and this problem can be solved if PMDC includes Dermatology as a separate subject in MBBS Curriculum.
  3. In other countries there are help group organizations to take care of patients of specific diseases. The audience was motivated to organize and develop such social groups.
